Nepalese Women

A group of women living and working in Methlang Village, Nepal.

I walked past these women while they were taking a break from work. They invited me to join them. I sat down and they gave me a generous portion of papaya with salt. We chatted a bit with the help of Google Translate and I decided to try to interview them. I asked, ‘what makes them who they are?’

I asked them several different ways and used a few different translations. Despite my efforts, the question was taken as, ‘who are you?’

To which one of the woman scowled at me, gestured to the scene as a whole, and stated, “We are workers.”
